World Lung Cancer Day 2023

01 August 2023 is "World Lung Cancer Day"

Today, 1 August is World Lung Cancer Day.  PATS joins its partners in the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS) to highlight smoking as the major risk factor for lung cancer and the importance of early detection.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally, responsible for almost 1 in 4 cancer deaths.  In Africa high rates of smoking and poor infrastructure or resources for early detection are key challenges.  As a result,  many people present only in the late stages of disease.  Strong advocacy to highlight the risks of smoking and smoking cessation programs are key to reducing this burden, as well as strengthened early detection.
