Prof. Refiloe Masekela PhD, Paediatric Pulmonologist, Head of Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.

Prof. Masekela has a special interest in chronic lung disease (bronchiectasis) and cystic fibrosis in African children. Her research areas include cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis, non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis, pneumonia in HIV-infected children, childhood asthma and spirometry in African children.

She is passionate about education for doctors, students and the lay-persons about lung diseases, in particular, asthma in children. She is a past chairperson of the South African National Asthma Education Programme. She serves as an executive member on various boards, namely - the South African Thoracic Society, National Asthma Education Program, Pan African Thoracic Society and the South African Cystic Fibrosis Association: Scientific Advisory board.
