Introduction
Prisoners are categorized among the high-risk population for acquiring tuberculosis (TB) and other related respiratory tract infections, which therefore calls for strict adherence to infection, prevention, and control (IPC) measures to avoid a surge in the number of infections. Risk factors for TB in prisons include overcrowding, poor ventilation, poor nutrition, comorbid diseases, e.g., HIV and poor access to TB services.
Introduction
I received an email on the 27th of June 2022 from the Pan African Thoracic Society (PATS) to apply for an event grant under the auspices of the PATS Lung health Initiative (PALI), which aims to raise awareness and advocate for improved lung health in Africa.
The goal of the awareness program which was held in Otjomuise Constituency in Windhoek, Namibia on World Lung Day was to raise awareness on post Tuberculosis lung disease among the patients, community health workers and physiotherapy students.
With support from Pan African Thoracic Society we held an event on the 25th of September 2022 at Mwanza District Hospital, Malawi, whose aim was to provide low-cost pulmonary rehabilitation to improve respiratory function of people on Tuberculosis treatment.
A. Preamble: As part of the activities to celebrate the World Lung Day 2022, the PATS awarded us a grant to conduct advocacy, community awareness, education and screening for tuberculosis in Nigeria. The event held as planned and was a huge success.
Some pictures of the events have been uploaded to various social media angles with thousands of reach.
