TRAINING HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS AT THE DOTS TREATMENT CENTERS ABOUT POST TB LUNG DISEASE PALI 2022

I will like to use this opportunity to express my gratitude to the entire PATS community for the opportunity provided to me through this award. The PATS PALI activity to mark the World Lung Day featured a one-day workshop to sensitize health care providers at the Directly Observed Therapy Short- course (DOTS) treatment centers across Lagos Metropolis about Post TB lung Disease (PTBLD).

It was hosted by the Respiratory Team of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Idi Araba, Lagos Nigeria, on the 30th of Sept, 2022 at the Surgical Skill Centre in LUTH.

There were seventy participants comprising of doctors, nurses and community health extension workers who manage and or work at the different DOTS treatment centers across the state. Lagos State TB program coordination center was also represented. The workshop featured seasoned lectures on the definition, burden, diagnosis and management outlines for PTBLD. The LUTH experience in managing patient with PTBLD was shared. Lastly, was both a theoretical and demonstration of practical approach to sputum induction for pulmonary TB diagnosis.  Lectures were delivered by members of the LUTH respiratory team and moderated by our unit head who is a seasoned Pulmonologist.

Feedbacks from participants were that of gratitude to both the organizers and the sponsors for the opportunity to participate in such an educative workshop. We are very optimistic that the knowledge gained will impact positively on their practices and contribute to achieving a healthy lung for all.
