The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Working Group was recently been established by of the Pan Africa Thoracic Society, as part of its efforts to promote the institution of adequate and optimal pulmonary rehabilitation services for the millions of deserving patients across Africa.
The group is open to all colleagues across Africa who are either actively involved or interested in working in this area. The main aims of the group are to:
Group Purpose
Serve as a platform to connect all respiratory health practitioners’ and researchers working in pulmonary rehabilitation across Africa
Become a sub-regional resource epicenter for pulmonary rehabilitation training by means of both virtual knowledge sharing and physical mobility programmes.
Come up with a cost-effective context based regionally relevant standards for pulmonary rehabilitation for the African setting
Advocate for the establishment of well-equipped pulmonary rehabilitation divisions/unit across African health centers
Create awareness and resource documents to the entire spectrum of healthcare workers by sharing local recommendations and adopting international recommendations and standards
Support research and encourage collaborations that will strengthen the use of pulmonary rehabilitation in the management of chronic respiratory disease in Africa.
Encourage international collaboration and strategic partnerships for its members with established centers both within and outside Africa
